Replace front disc brake pads on a 2001 VW Jetta

This is a step by step video showing how I replaced the front disc brake shoes on a 2001 VW Jetta. Note that the rear disc brakes on this model are significantly more difficult, because the emergency brake is intimately associated with the rear caliper. You need special tools to do the rear. I have made some still photos of a rear caliper when I rebuilt it last year. If you want to see those, send me a youtube message. This video is published for entertainment purposes, and is not to be construed as an instruction guide. I am not a professional mechanic.

Well here you are after many requests for this one it’s finally here. I shot this last spring but I’ve been saving it for you as a special present. In this episode we go over the principals of operation and replacement of a basic front disc brake set up. It all starts with a shaking steering wheel and ends with new brakes. I think this is a pretty good video overall and gives the important information you would need to perform this task yourself. A couple of notes. I didn’t have time to go over how to isolate a brake pulsation between front or rear in this video. Also, I had a very easy time of getting these rotors off, I can assure you that this is not often the case, I could probably do a video just on removing difficult rotors alone. I may do a video on that in the future as I collect some different scenarios for you. Fix Wheelbarrow Flat Tire with Exploding Gas!

Fix Wheelbarrow Flat Tire with Exploding Gas!

Simple old method of fixing a tire that has a broken bead. Will work on ANY SIZE TIRE…the larger the tire, the more sprays…I only use about 1 or 2 short sprays, don’t go crazy or it will catch fire! Then quickly spin the tire to circulate gas and ignite…Hot gas will explode and push tire against rim…You must inflate immediately because expanded hot gas will cool, contract and tire will loose the bead again….BE CAREFUL

Major Prius Bumper Dent Repair

Rather than paying for an expensive Toyota Prius bumper replacement after an unpleasant encounter with a parking lot pole, we decide to attempt the do-it-yourself, armed only with a can of solvent, two hair dryers, and some touch-up paint. Half of the fun is listening to Dad’s comments! Your mileage may vary! We were lucky that even though the dent was huge, it was easy to access the other side of it to push against. We thought about trying the compressed air trick, but the dent was so deep that we were afraid it might pop in the wrong direction! Recorded with the Canon VIXIA HV30 (awesome camcorder!).

If you never changed brakes before in your super duty ford truck, ie f250,f350 then watch this video for some tips if your stuck. If your pads are worn on one side and not on the other than most likely your pins are frozen, rusted in place and most likely you will have to replace that whole caliper holder. the rear brakes come off with just removing 4 bolts and a bit of time and effort.
